Genesis 1:1
Direct Translation into English: INSUMMIT, ELOHIM, HE DID FATTEN THESKIES AND THELAND. . .
In summit (b'reshit) appears to be an idiom for the beginning of something. . .possibly a reference to an ancient belief in the region of ancient Canaan that the God, El, was thought to dwell in a mountaintop. . .
To fatten (bara) appears to idiomatically mean to make, or make more of, something. . .
In beginning, Elohim made the skies and the land.
Should not be translated as "the heavens and the earth" because 1) "the heavens" indicates a later conceptualization of the afterlife that is not present in Judaism until at least 1,200 years after the first lines of the Tanakh were written and "the earth" indicates a concept of the planet that was not formulated until modernity.

Introductory Post
The intention of this blog is to centralize and share my studies of the Hebrew Bible. I intend to post translations of the Tanakh a verse at a time with comparative word studies and comparative phrase studies.
